New Music: May 15, 2026
No IDM this week folks, but that doesn’t mean it’s not interesting. We get close with whatever the fuck Speedy J put out with Walkman. Elsewhere, we get not one, but two albums that affirm our existence. None other than The Field does so by laying down some nearly indescribable ambient minimal breaks, while Martyn tries their hand at break-filled free jazz, which both seem to confirm: “I dance, therefore I am.” Martyn isn’t the only one with jazzy breaks — see also Ibrahim Alfa Jnr, whose woozy, bleep-drenched tracks are a must-hear. A couple of particularly lush entries come from JWords and Synkro & Tom Jamey, alongside some drum’n’bass, not least from ever-prolific Pizza Hotline, and a good grip of techno, including from genre mainstays Function and Planetary Assault System. But trust me when I say, it’s all worth a listen. Dig in!
