New Music: May 29, 2026

You may or may not have heard that Boards of Canada released their new album, Inferno, this week. Good to see them pushing their sonic boundaries further while maintaining their signature sound. Pianeti Sintetici provides a slice of dark matter on their new release for Samurai Music, while B0t23 & Inoperative System navigate a nearby solar system for Science Cult—both somehow sprawling EPs that prove the furthest reaches of space have yet to be explored.

We also get an as-expected masterclass from Shed on their release for Dekmantel, effortlessly fusing down-to-earth techno with a heartfelt sentimentality. There’s plenty for those looking to get on the dancefloor as well, with Kaval and Jensen Interceptor delivering the Lunatic’s picks to bring the heat.

Final mention goes to ear for their immaculate mess of an album, one that hits the sickly sweet spots in all the right places.

New Music: May 22, 2026

This week, the ground shook and the heavens opened, giving us a new release from Traumprinz entitled Birth. Blink and the vinyl will be—and it’s gone. Still, they are releasing on Bandcamp now, so you can at least still grab the digital. Plenty of other great releases this week too. Bass extraordinaire Air Max '97 returns with a deft EP of sharp angles and subs on Fool's Errand. Italian electronic artist Katatonic Silentio is back for their second release of the year, delivering a cultivated electronica that seems to grow organically out of the soil. And either I haven’t been paying proper attention, or Tim Reaper just put out their first EP of 2026—and it’s a rip-roarin’ affair featuring some of the best in the biz, including Dwarde, Kloke, and Nectax. Other standouts come from Sound Synthesis, Vardae, and Amor Satyr.

No IDM this week folks, but that doesn’t mean it’s not interesting. We get close with whatever the fuck Speedy J put out with Walkman. Elsewhere, we get not one, but two albums that affirm our existence. None other than The Field does so by laying down some nearly indescribable ambient minimal breaks, while Martyn tries their hand at break-filled free jazz, which both seem to confirm: “I dance, therefore I am.” Martyn isn’t the only one with jazzy breaks — see also Ibrahim Alfa Jnr, whose woozy, bleep-drenched tracks are a must-hear. A couple of particularly lush entries come from JWords and Synkro & Tom Jamey, alongside some drum’n’bass, not least from ever-prolific Pizza Hotline, and a good grip of techno, including from genre mainstays Function and Planetary Assault System. But trust me when I say, it’s all worth a listen. Dig in!
