Rave Review: Aerae - Terrā

Coming hot off a solid release on Berlin’s D’n’B mainstay Samurai Music, Aerae descends deeper into her own hallucinogenic world on Terrā. The EP unfolds like a creation story—mystical at times yet full of good fortune—setting the tone for a deeply ethereal journey into the night.

The first track, “Olabi,” the only cut without a Latin reference, derives from a West African language meaning “born into wealth” or “born with honor,” a term often used to express hope for prosperity. Its fierce beat accelerates like a cheetah just before the kill, showcasing Aerae’s gift for blending dubstep and D’n’B with a tribal tinge. Hypnotic and groovy, it locks the elements into place, building the kind of tension that defines a late-night set.

The second track, “Aether” (Latin for “upper atmosphere”), historically refers to the fiery quinta essentia—a fifth element inhabited by deities. Its deep rumble carries that same celestial weight, evoking a vast, luminous expanse. One can easily imagine this sonic space as the dwelling of something divine. The third track, ‘Lenis’, again drawn from Latin and meaning “smooth,” pulses with pumping bass and dreamy jet-stream synths that glide across the ears. Fun and funky, it feels destined for a hot, sweat-soaked dancefloor.

The final and title track, “Terrā,” lands as a weighty halftime D’n’B thriller capable of sinking a dancefloor whole. The more you move, the more it pulls you into its quicksand throes. By the time it fades, the core has formed and the creation story etched into stone.
